We don’t need Superman because we have you

Lisa SpinaliAs the Executive Director of the San Francisco Education Fund I have been asked many times what my stance is on the new movie Waiting for “Superman.” On one hand, I am delighted that the movie shines a spotlight on public education. The quality of public education is an issue the San Francisco Education Fund is deeply invested in and in fact was founded upon. On the other hand, the movie presents a very complicated issue through an overly simplistic lens. It doesn’t highlight the incredible work that many public schools are doing to provide our nation’s students with a high quality education. Ultimately, I am thrilled that it pushes people to take action on behalf of public schools because here in San Francisco we have many innovative programs that are truly strengthening public schools.
