Peak6 Gives El Dorado Elementary School a Library Makeover
On August 20, 2010 El Dorado Elementary students got a fully refurbished library thanks to Peak6 Investments, a San Francisco based finance firm. The new state of the art library will not only encourage the love of reading by providing more access to books but will also help close the digital divide.
El Dorado is an elementary school tucked in a maze of residential streets in Visitacion Valley. The school staff wants to foster students’ computer skills so they have competitive proficiency in middle school and beyond—yet the school only had one computer made in this decade. It was the only one that was up to date enough to run the District’s interactive library program that allows students to search for books and to write and post reviews that can be seen district-wide. In response, Peak 6 funded the construction of a multi-media center outfitted with shelving, new painted walls, library furniture, an interactive smart board, new books, and even 12 new computers.
All of the words in the new library cannot express how grateful the El Dorado community is to have received this gift from Peak6.
