A Quality Teacher in Every Classroom: Teacher Recruitment and Retention in San Francisco (Winter 2007). This report explores the challenges of attracting and keeping quality teachers, considers the costs associated with teacher turnover, and identifies best practices from around the country and from our own backyard that can be used to develop policy recommendations aimed at recruiting and retaining quality teachers in San Francisco. Student Enrollment, Recruitment and Retention: Community Conversations about San Francisco Public Schools (March 2007). This report outlines findings from 90 community conversations held in fall 2006 through winter 2007 with more than 900 San Franciscans on what kinds of schools our community wants. San Franciscans are telling us that their top issues are: Quality Schools, Safe Schools and Neighborhoods, Strong School Communities, A System that Works for Families, A Fair System, and Effective Leadership. The Education Fund, Parent Advisory Council to the Board of Education, Parents for Public Schools, and San Francisco Unified School District worked together to spearhead the community engagement effort as part of the District's Student Enrollment, Recruitment and Retention Initiative. Many of these recommendations have been incorporated into the District's plan submitted to the Board of Education.

California No Child Left Behind, January 2006. In January 2006, the Education Fund and the Public Education Network provided a unique opportunity for community members to share their views on the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and make recommendations on how the law may be improved.
