"I use the Peer Resources skills when I really need them, through the rough and good times… It showed me a part of me I never knew"

Strategies of Successful Students

Peer Resources has developed a new, powerful approach to peer-to-peer tutoring called Strategies of Successful Students (SOSS) which gives struggling students the skills they need to raise their grades. SOSS was created to help students learn new study strategies and techniques leading to increased comprehension and understanding of difficult academic material. The program is based on accelerated learning techniques, quantum teaching skills, and brain-based research on how the brain learns, receives, and retains information. The program is flexible and applicable to students of all skill and grade levels, and it works well in coordination with other peer helping programs, particularly as part of peer education presentations.

Program Accomplishments

Peer Resources implemented SOSS at eight school sites last year, and more than 700 students were introduced to SOSS curriculum. In addition, over 300 students needing tutoring were introduced to SOSS. The SOSS program is popular with students and school faculty, as it provides concrete information about how the brain learns and encourages students to make positive changes in how they prepare for school and tests.
