Programs

“Every person that enters a classroom has something to offer - they could be a plumber, storyteller, a grandmother, they all bring in a point of view and an expertise that there is no way I, as a classroom teacher, could provide my students with.”
Nora Youna, Redding Elementary School

Individual Volunteers

Every person that enters a classroom has something to offer. Teachers have submitted hundreds of requests for volunteers. Our goal is to match you to a class that really needs your talents and skills.

We place and support volunteers in all schools, while focusing our efforts in 30 priority schools where the needs are most critical. We seek to close the achievement gap and create sustainable change in student achievement.

Benefits of Volunteering

School volunteering is a two-way street: just as students and teachers benefit from having a helping hand in the classroom, individuals who spend time with kids in a classroom also reap personal rewards.

A recent national study found that:

  • 75% of adults who volunteered with youth said their mentoring experience had a “very positive” effect on their lives, and
  • 83% reported learning or gaining something personally from their experience.
