Meet a volunteer: Jack Fulcher

Jack Fulcher has been at John Muir Elementary School for three years. As a classroom volunteer, he shows up every week to Room 16 to tutor students in math, geography, and the basic value of studying hard and practicing classroom skills at home.

According to teacher Laurie Murdock, Jack is more than just a tutor for her students: “He is our classroom mascot, always rooting for us and encouraging us. The students have an incredible resource in Mr. Fulcher.” Jack serves as an important role model for each and every student he works with, and through consistent patience and kindness has built a strong bond with the students.

Murdock says she benefits from having Jack in the classroom just as much as the children do. “I feel so encouraged and appreciated by him. I am so grateful for the extra support he gives my students, whatever level they are on.”

Jack continues to connect with students even when he can’t be present in the classroom – “he writes postcards when he goes away and really makes an effort to stay in touch” – affirming that he will have a lasting impact on Room 16’s classroom community for years to come.
